Wasted Votes? I don't think so

Excellent article on the Libertarian site about how important it is not just to vote, but to vote for who you want, not just because you don't want to 'waste your vote'.

This year has been a very different year for me in regards to the election. I've been more active and vocal than I have been in the past, and I guess it's partly because I am tired of the same old rhetoric during the election campaigns, and then it seems like they continue on with doing what they want to do.

I may not agree with everything that Bob Barr says, but I agree with his guiding principles about government.

Halloween Costumes

Well, I finally got the chance to do a Halloween costume that I've wanted to do for quite a while. I couldn't do it until now because I couldn't find anyone else willing to wear the second one, and it's the kind of costume that definitely needs the second one.

We dressed up as the Yip Yips from Sesame Street. For those of you who haven't seen them, they first appeared some time ago when the visited Earth from Mars. Their first encounter with Earth Creatures was a 'Telephone'. I still remember watching the skit on Sesame Street, and 'yipping' along with them until I could do it even without watching the TV (which of course pleased my Mom to no end, especially as I ran around 'BBBRRRINNGGGGINGGGG' all afternoon).

Now to carve my pumpkins tonight, and I should be all set for Halloween on Friday!!

Product Review

When I first saw the ad for this product on Internet Superstar I thought it was a spoof. Turns out that Ahhh is a real product.

After sharing it with my cube mates (the commercial) and snickering about it, I actually decided to order some and give it a try.

I got it yesterday, and anxiously awaited my moment to try it out.

Wow, is all I have to say. Once you've used it you'll never want to be without it, it really does work.

Portable Linux Distros

I've always liked the concept of having an OS on a CD or lately a thumb drive. Something that I could carry around with me, plug in and reboot and I have an isolated system.

I've used Knoppix before (especially fun leaving it in someones drive so when they boot up the next day they are in Linux :) ), but I just saw this article at Lifehacker covering portable Linux thumb drive distributions.

Might have to give this a try, especially if it will work on my MacBook :)

More on the new MacBook

I've been looking at the reviews for the new MacBook and MacBook Pro's that were just released last week.

The graphics performance is definitely a huge improvement over the existing Macbooks. It actually turns out that in some games the new MacBook actually out performs my existing iMac. This has really got me thinking on whether or not I need the extra video card, especially since you can't run it in SLI mode.

Right now the only game I really play regularly is WoW, and if the new MacBook can run that well, it might be just what I need.

I do believe it may be time to make a visit to the Apple store for a little 'hands on' with the new MacBooks.

New device from AT&T for Laptops

AT&T QuickSilver at first seems like a really great device. Especially considering that they currently have a deal going on that makes it essentially free.

Free that is until you add a data plan (which is required), and the only data plan that is available is 5gb per month for $60!!!

I could understand ALMOST if this was the only thing I had with AT&T, but I already have a data plan with my iPhone, and it would seem that I should be eligible for better pricing.

Oh well, I love my iPhone and it's 3G access

New Macbooks

I really like the design of the new Macbooks, although there are a few things I don't like about them as well.

1. The Macbook no longer comes with a firewire port, to me that's going to keep me from getting one.
2. The Macbook video chip, while it is the new one from NVidia, still shares memory with the system. That is not made very clear and is only in the fine print. The big question is what kind of impact does this have? Time will tell, but that's another negative against the Macbook.
3. I love the dual video cards in the Macbook Pro's. Very nice to be able to select which one to use to maximize power savings.
4. Vagueness about whether the Macbook Pro's video cards can work in SLI, it's not obvious from the tech specs.
5. LED displays are good...
6. Environmentally friendly manufacturing and recycling is good.

I'll probably end up getting a Macbook Pro, once I've saved up a bit and I'll end up selling my current iMac and Macbook on eBay. I will then have gone from 7 Windows machines down to 1 Mac (well, I do have a G3 that I got for 100 bucks on eBay that I use as an alarm clock and streaming audio video to my bedroom, and will probably hook up my Personal Weather Station to).

Hockey Season!!

Well, it's almost upon us, lest than a week to go before the first exhibition game of the season. Even though it's an 'exhibition' game it counts towards the regular season.

I was very happy last year when I found out that we had a hockey team in Winston Salem, and after going to quite a few games, I ended up buying season tickets for this year. This is the first time I've bought season tickets for ANYTHING, but my Brother and I had so much fun, I wanted to go this year, and also show my support.

The sad thing is, if we don't get enough attendance this year, it will be the last year for the Cyclones.

If you like hockey come and check them out, it's a total blast, and I'll be in section 11 with the Air Horn :)
